If accepted into the program, how can I assure a place for my student in next year’s program?"There is no guarantee that your student will be accepted into the program year after year however if he/she maintains a minimal 3.0 GPA requirement, actively participates in and attends YLeader events, is in good financial standing with the organization, and meets the early registration fee deadline for returning students, he/she will have a higher advantage than new students on being re-enrolled in the YLeader program.
-
What are other opportunities my student will have as a YLeader?Only YLeader members are eligible to attend second Saturday events, mission trips, college tours, and have access to YBLA internships and scholarships. YLeaders will have many opportunities to gain community service hours. Once your student is in the 11th grade, he/she has the option to apply for the Ambassador program. This program is an elite group of 10-12 young women and men that will be the face of the organization and have advanced leadership training. They will participate and host events and have the opportunity to travel on Global Leadership trips to learn international business and cultural diversity.
-
What does the monthly YLeader Membership fee cover? There is a $75/non-refundable registration fee and a monthly installment fe of $79. The registration fee will cover the new member’s packet including YBLA apparel and technology. The monthly fee supplements the cost of these programs ranging from staff, member resource materials, outside speaker fees, venue rentals, and refreshments. Some activities will require additional cost such as college tours, mission trips, and global travel involving transportation, hotel accommodations, meals, etc.
-
Can I still be a member and attend Second Saturday classes only? There are no options to attend second Saturday’s only. All members will have to join a weekday session in order to be eligible to come to the second Saturday sessions.
-
Can I pay the membership in full?Absolutely and we will discount the tuition by 10%. The total cost for paying the membership in full is $640.00.
-
After joining, what if I decide to cancel my membership?"Our goal is to offer our members quality programs and resources. If you decide to discontinue your membership, the registration fee is non-refundable, and a 30-day notice is required to cancel your membership.
-
Will I get a refund if my student cannot attend a monthly event? We will not issue refunds for missed monthly activities. While we would like members to attend every event we realize many are busy that’s why there are often multiple events in a month.
-
Can parents participate or volunteer in events? Most events are for student members, but there are a number of activities that parents will be invited to attend. We will inform you of these events as well as any associated costs however we invite and encourage all parents to volunteer in our events.
-
Can I invite friends to join my student at events?YLeader events are exclusive for members; however, there will have opportunities where members can invite a friend.
-
What happens if I loose or damage my YLeader apparel, can I get more?"Yes, you can order more apparel at an additional cost.
-
Who do I contact if I have a question about my membership or need help making a payment? You should call YBLA at 704.251.5770x1 or email info@youngblackleadership.org.
-
When is my payment due?On the first of each month unless you prepay the discounted tuition in full.
-
How can I make my payment? You can pay by using a Debit/Credit card for auto-draft. This is a requirement for all members.
-
Can I opt-out of auto-draft?YBLA offers two options for payment: full payment and monthly auto-draft payments.
-
Can I request a different draft date? No, all payments are due and drafted on the 1st of the month.
-
What happens if I am unable to make the payment? You will receive email communication alerts due to non-payment, then you will incur a $20 late fee if the balance is not paid by the 5th of the month.
-
Can I be suspended from the YLeader program?Yes. Reasons include inappropriate representation of YBLA in the school, community and social media, or non-payment of membership dues. After 10 days past due, membership will be placed on hold and 15 days past due membership will be suspended. We strongly encourage our members to contact us if you foresee a problem with payments.
-
If I exit the program, can I rejoin during the Mid-Entry period (November - December) of the same program year?"Yes. Students who elect to drop or withdraw from the program are eligible to rejoin the program in the same program year. However, students who desire to rejoin the program will incur a re-entry fee.
