YBLA Serves Ghana

Rest, Rhythm, and Full Circle

Updated: Dec 18, 2025

The next day was a free day until the close-out party, and it was exactly what we needed. The YoPros spent the afternoon by the pool, resting, laughing, decompressing, and soaking in the fact that we were really here. After days filled with emotion, history, and service, the stillness felt earned.

Then, fifteen minutes before we were supposed to leave for the party, chaos. As I pulled my dress out of the suitcase, the zipper broke completely. Panic set in immediately. I stood there staring at it, thinking, not tonight, not now. I called the front desk in a rush, barely finishing my sentence before help was already on the way.

Within moments, there was a knock at my door. A Mövenpick staff member arrived, calm and confident. He took one look at the dress, picked it up, and told me he’d be right back. Five minutes later, he returned with the zipper sewn back in place, reinforced so well that he said it would never break again.

Something about that moment stayed with me. All trip long, I kept witnessing the same theme: care, community, and people showing up without hesitation. Whether it was service in the village, guidance in the market, or help in a moment of panic, Ghana kept meeting me with exactly what I needed, right on time.

That night, we made it to the close-out party, dressed and ready. The room was filled with even more incredible African food, music, and joy. We danced the night away with the Ghanaian professionals we first met on Day One. This time, no introductions needed.

We taught them Black American line dances, laughing through missed steps, and in return, they taught us their party dances. Fast, rhythmic, and full of life. By the end of the night, it was impossible to tell who was teaching and who was learning. We were just moving together.

The night felt like a celebration. Not just of the trip, but of connection, shared culture, and the relationships that had grown so naturally. A perfect close to a journey that gave me far more than I ever expected.
