After nearly sixteen hours of travel, I finally arrived in Accra around 9 pm., tired but full of anticipation. Today marked our Global Leadership Forum, a day centered on connection, dialogue, and shared problem-solving with Ghanaian young professionals.
We began the morning by intentionally grounding ourselves in the land. Standing outside with our feet planted firmly on the earth, we paused to connect with Africa: breathing in the air, feeling the warmth of the sun, and allowing ourselves to be fully present. It was a simple yet powerful way to honor where we were and prepare for the day ahead.
The Forum opened with networking before transitioning into a panel featuring two YBLA YoPros and two young professionals from Ghana. Together, we explored cultural similarities and differences, shared lived experiences, and discussed what it means to navigate the world’s toughest challenges as young professionals. While the air felt tense at first, likely nerves on both sides, that quickly dissolved into genuine conversation, laughter, and mutual respect.
Before we knew it, discussions flowed effortlessly. From debating whether Nigerian or Ghanaian jollof rice was better to unpacking how Black Americans are perceived through media in Ghana. Those moments, both lighthearted and deeply meaningful, formed connections that felt authentic and lasting. Not only with Ghanaian professionals, but also among fellow YoPros.
We shared a traditional meal of jollof rice, chicken, plantains, and more before concluding the Forum with a Collective Impact Project. Each participant had selected an issue they were passionate about; I chose education and youth empowerment. In our groups, we identified a specific problem and created a social media post with a call to action. My group focused on the need for quality infrastructure in schools and its role in educational equity.

As the sun set, we transitioned to a Sunset Social at Sandbox Beach Club. With music in the air and the ocean nearby, we danced, enjoyed more incredible food, and deepened the connections formed throughout the day. Surrounded by new Ghanaian friends, laughter, and joy, the night felt like a celebration of culture, purpose, and the relationships just beginning.
