Frequently Asked Questions

Ambassador Program Questions

  1. What is the Ambassador Program?
The Ambassador Program is YBLA’s premier leadership development and college readiness
program. The program starts in the 11th grade and continues through college into early
professional years. Applicants must have a weighted 3.0 GPA to apply. The program starts in
September. Deadline to apply is Sunday, August 23.

  2. What happens if I cannot get my grades uploaded in time to register?
There is a parent verification section on the application. However, you will need to confirm your grades by using an unofficial transcript before the orientation. If you fail to show your documentation at the required time, you will not be allowed to continue in the program.

  3. When will I find out if I was selected in the Ambassador Program?
You will be notified via email by Friday, August 28.

  4. Will there be another opportunity to apply this year?
Unfortunately, not. YBLA opens enrollment one time a year to 11th grade students only.

  5. Do you take 9th, 10th, and 12th graders?
YBLA does not admit 9th , 10th , or new 12th graders. Once you come in as an 11th grader, you continue through your 12th grade year.

  6. Will there ever be in-person sessions?
No, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ambassador Program will be 100% virtual for the entire 2020-2021 school year.

  7. Will the parent sessions be mandatory?
No, but highly encouraged. Parent sessions are provided as a valuable part of the program.

  8. Are all the sessions mandatory?
Yes, but we understand things happen. Absences will be excused or unexcused according to your leadership coach.

  9. If I choose to leave during my junior year, will I be allowed to re-enroll my senior year?
Unfortunately, no due to the missed trainings that you will not be able to make up.

  10. How many Ambassadors are you accepting this year?
Our target goal is to admit 276 new 11th grade Ambassadors.

  11. Do I get to choose my meeting date and time?
Yes, once you are notified that you have advanced to a virtual interview, you will have the opportunity to pick all the days you are available. We will try to accommodate your requests but cannot make any guarantees.

  12. Can I be in a group with my friends?
Team selections are based on overall availability of the applicants; therefore, it is possible that
Ambassadors may be in groups with their friends, but we cannot guarantee it.

  13. What is the selection process?
At the Summit, 11th graders with a 3.0 GPA and higher will be invited to apply. We will review
the applications and select the first 350 qualified applicants to move to the interview process.
Applicants will be notified on Sunday, August 23 if they have been selected for a virtual
interview. At that time, applicants will choose your interview time slot. Interviews will take place
Mon, August 24 through Thursday, Aug 27th . On Fri, August 28, final notifications will be sent
with an Acceptance or Waitlist decision.

  14. Will the Ambassador teams be unisex or co-ed?
    All teams will be co-ed.
